Smashed Chair

Los Angeles’ Milo Greene balance their breathy chants with pronounced guitars and the pattering percussions, a miniature orchestra teetering on the edge of explosive and then they retreat into some sweet sounding deluge before anyone gets hurt. Sure it’s heavy handed, but this is powerful stuff here, like a battle hymn that resuscitates a fallen soldier. Or maybe the war is already over and this final song guides the wayward soul to some better late night diner.

It’s a time lapse. Milo Greene carry with them the sound of a long-forgotten ballad, like a folk prayer passed down. It’s changed over time, but the soul remains at the heart.

Yes, it may seem spiritual at times, but that’s only because the members of the band approach each song with their eyes either cast skywards or to their feet, humility for the group, but also for the music that’s being created. So silence your phones.

Milo Greene start their Monday night residency @ The Satellite, February 13.
