Smashed Chair

WATERS blast with their wall of sound, the vocals, drums, guitar all weighed evenly, this egalitarian approach to making music is celebratory and perfect for singalongs or maybe just a few drunken lines into the tavern mirror.

When things pick up it’s like all hell breaking loose into a film school vault, the whole mess melting, sped up images of flowers blooming and then decaying, this fire lapping at the film reels, and just before the explosion the band turns on a dime and the chorus dies.

Getting it or understanding where they’re coming from isn’t necessarily required, but there is a sense of depth to the San Francisco band and yes, the ocean beckons to the band as it seems the easiest comparison when writing a review of said band, but things can get a bit more complicated when say things become acoustic, the inspirations unfolding before the listener ten times over.

WATERS play @ The Fonda, May 11 with Delta Spirit.
