Warped Tour has history. Gabe Saporta from Cobra Starship is now part of it. Surprisingly, he’s adding a couple of pages to that history book in Spanish.
SC: When’s the Spanish album coming out?
Gabe: Well we just released a Spanish version of “Guilty Pleasure.” It took me forever to translate the song. It was so hard translating the words, but trying to get the rhythm and flow right. Literally took me months to get that right. We just released that and it’s actually get play on MTV 3.
SC: When’s the Spanish album coming out?
Gabe: I don’t know if I’m going to do a whole album, but that song just came out. I did a song on the first album half Spanish, the Ballad of the Diamond Girl. I’m definitely going to be doing more stuff in Spanish. Kids seem to respond to it – even kids who didn’t know Spanish. “Yo, it’s like I’m learning and I’m having fun.”

SC: Do you think the keytar is underrated?
Gabe: No way, dude. I think people love the keytar – it’s the most important member of Cobra Starship. No one knows who anybody fucking is. They go, “oh yeah, there’s five joe schmoes and a chick in the band.” And then they go, “Damn, there’s that keytar!” It’s a little hard to use the keytar, the keytar itself has no sound really. [Victoria] has to plug it into another thing and that’s where she gets the sounds. Maybe it’s a little underrated in how much goes into it. I’ve heard some people say, “Oh that’s not hard to play.” But it’s really hard to play. With a keyboard you just bang down and the weight is right there, but with the keytar you have to push it in while holding it to make it work.
SC: Gravity wise. Fourteen years ago Warped Tour started – where were you fourteen years ago?
Gabe: Fourteen years ago, really? I think I was at the first Warped tour.
Someone mentions that the first warped tour was in Los Angeles.
Gabe: Ok, so I was at the first one when it came to East Coast, cause I saw Blink 182. They were playing on this small stage and they played last and people were giving them the finger, because I saw them in Boston and Boston’s a pretty hard town and Blink, well they wore baggy shorts and they were skaters. And Blink was like, “We’re the last band and if you don’t like it, go fuck yourself.” It was awesome.
